Enhancing Life Conference
Friday, August 4 - Sunday, August 6
450 North Cityfront Plaza Drive
Chicago, IL 60611
For the past two years, 35 renowned scholars from around the world in the fields of law, social sciences, humanities, religion, communications, and others, have explored basic questions of human existence through the Enhancing Life project. These scholars have generated individual research projects and engaged in teaching in Enhancing Life Studies within their fields, as well as contributed to public engagement via lectures and blog posts. The capstone conference, which will take place at the University of Chicago’s Gleacher Center, aims to present the findings of the scholars and to create new knowledge. The program will include keynote addresses from Neubauer Collegium Faculty Fellow William Schweiker, Professor of Theological Ethics at the University of Chicago Divinity School, and from Neubauer Collegium Visiting Fellow Günter Thomas, Professor of Theology at Bochum University. Schweiker and Thomas are collaborating on the Neubauer Collegium research project Living Aspirations, which explores aspirations as the key missing link between human creativity and social and cultural processes of transforming and enriching life. Neubauer Collegium Executive Director Elspeth Carruthers will introduce both speakers at the event.
The Enhancing Life Project has been made possible by a generous grant from the John Templeton Foundation, and the support of the University of Chicago and Bochum University Germany.
