Ahmed Abu Shaban is Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at Al-Azhar University–Gaza and recently served as a visiting professor of Environmental & Urban Change at York University, Toronto. He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Hohenheim, Germany. His research focuses on food systems, climate justice, agricultural livelihoods, environmental vulnerability, and higher education resilience in Gaza and Palestine more broadly. He has worked extensively on the impacts of conflict and blockade on food security, research capacity, and academic life, and is a founding member of the Emergency Committee of Gaza Universities. His recent work addresses scholasticide, the destruction of Palestinian higher education, and the struggle to sustain teaching, research, and knowledge production under conditions of war and displacement.
