Dafni Tragaki
Biography
Dafni Tragaki is Associate Professor of Music Anthropology based at the Department of History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology of the University of Thessaly (Greece). She is the author of Rebetiko Worlds: Ethnomusicology and Ethnography in the City (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2006) and editor of Empire of Song: Europe and Nation in the Eurovision Song Contest (Scarecrow Press, 2013), Μade in Greece: Studies in Popular Music (Rouledge, 2019), and Ethnomusicology and its Intimacies (co-edited with St. Cottrell and St. Wilford, 2024). Most of her research and publications focus on Greek popular music addressing issues of performativity, dissent and public space, affect and the political, the archive, modernity, Europeanness, memory, time and the senses, cosmopolitanism, noise, whiteness and coloniality, intimacy, mobility, walking ethnography and digital media. She’s a founding member of the International Workshop in Theory and Sound, annually organized in South Pelio (Greece) since 2022.
