Darryl Li is Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Chicago, an Associate Member of the Law School, and a licensed attorney. He is a scholar of war, law, colonialism, and migration focusing on transregional connections across and through the Arab region. For the Scholasticide in and Beyond Palestine project, Li will work in collaboration with the virtual research fellows and help to contextualize interview data on scholasticide in broader histories of Israeli colonialism in southwest Palestine and in debates on the rapidly evolving international legal jurisprudence on genocide. Li has written on Israeli colonial policies, including the destruction of housing and infrastructure (electricity and water) for the Journal of Palestine Studies, Middle East Report, and Jadaliyya, drawing from his experiences living in the Gaza Strip while working for the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (2001-2002); as well as from research conducted in Gaza intermittently from 2002 to 2011 for Human Rights Watch and B’Tselem (the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories). He has also written about the question of Palestine in international law for Dissent, London Review of International Law, and Jewish Currents.
