At this workshop, held August 7-9 in Tilcajete (Oaxaca, Mexico) and co-organized by the community-based group Palo Que Habla, the research team on the Neubauer Collegium Diversity of Color project partnered with local conservationists to study organisms native to the region. Participants collected sample plants, performed morphological analyses of their structure, extracted their DNA, and performed polymerase chain reactions in order to study the organisms in greater detail. Their goal was to improve local approaches to the cultivation and conservation of natural dyes.
