Biography

Damary Alvarez (she/her) is a student at the University of Chicago majoring in Global Studies and Human Rights (expected graduation: Spring 2025). She has a significant interest in immigration and refugee studies, reflected in her academic pursuits and hands-on experiences. Damary has interned with Chicago Appleseed, contributing to a comprehensive report on the immigration court system in America. Additionally, she has conducted research on environmental justice and diasporas within the immigrant community in Pilsen. As a research assistant on the Imagining a Sanctuary City project, she will explore the definition and implications of Chicago as a sanctuary city on refugee work.
