John E. Cort is the author of Jains in the World: Religious Values and Ideology in India (2001), Framing the Jina: Narratives of Icons and Idols in India (2010), and, with Lawrence A. Babb and Michael W. Meister, Desert Temples: Sacred Centers of Rajasthan in Historical, Art-Historical and Social Contexts (2008). He is the editor and co-editor of several volumes on Jain communities and culture, and he has also published translations of the Sanskrit poetry of Bhartṛhari and Jagannātha Paṇḍitarāja from Writers Workshop in Calcutta. Cort is currently working on a book that investigates the earliest publication projects of the Śvetāmbar Mūrtipūjak Jains in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. During his residency as a Neubauer Collegium Visiting Fellow he is focusing on the work of Ācārya Vijay Dharmsūri (1868-1922), who established a school for training monks and lay scholars that produced some of the most important Jain scholars of modern times.
